It would not surprise me if there are people in Trump's orbit who are trying to gradually escalate into a bigger commitment of U.S. ground troops in Iran. Maybe they even think that a high casualty event involving U.S. forces will generate support for a bigger military campaign (I think the opposite is likely to be the case). However, I am skeptical that we get a 20 year ground war, because I don't think it is technically possible at this point to sustain a long-term war. We have a military that is built around the use of fossil fuels, and how exactly does that all work in a world of $200 a barrel oil? Even in terms of the global supply chain, the inefficiencies with the entire military procurement and production system, how can we afford to do a major ground operation? Sky high inflation. Sky-rocketing borrowing costs. In many cases we will not even be able to source materials that go into weapons production. Add in collapsing morale, a public that hasn't been mobilized properly for a war, and it all becomes just too absurd to contemplate.
left click drag 'thousands of special ops forces' right click send 'kharg island' yeah that'll do it
